Well, it seems our sailors had correctly diagnosed the problem. The MaxProp was broken and was immediately shipped back to the manufacturer for repair. "Immediately shipped back", however, does not mean that it was immediately returned, nor does it mean the only boat lift in Morro Bay was immediately available.
As of this writing, our sailors are in various states of waiting it out. They have spent a few nights at the Morro Bay Yacht Club and have anchored out on a mooring ball for at least one night in the bay. As last I heard, they will be able to get the boat on the lift tomorrow, test the repaired prop, and then await the weather window. It seems the weather forecast is for gale force winds over the next few days. If there was ever a lesson on how to "go with the flow", it is a lesson that all sailors have learned all too well...and is all too often repeated!
Here a few photos (again, courtesy of Eric Bishop) as they wait it out. Eric has described the otters napping as follows:
"Here's one more of otters napping; one has a "little one" on board wrapped safely in the kelp."
Awwwwwwww.....!!!!
