New Nav Station and "Welcome Aboard" :)
In order to accomodate all the new equipment, with the attendant tank monitors, switches, radios, electronics, etc., it had become necessary to expand the capacity of our original nav station. I have contracted with a local cabinet maker / boat builder, and together we are building the beast. (For our CM440 friends who are reading this, the builder and I have agreed that if we get a good result, we may be able to offer a detailed set of plans for others to take to a local cabinet maker ~ the caveat, of course, being that every boat is slightly different and will require on-site refinements for the perfect fit. I will keep you posted...)
Thursday I traveled alongside the builder to a series of hardwood warehouses in Berkeley to select the teak. The key in this process is to get it to match (as closely as nature will permit), the color, density, and grain of the existing interior. Fascinating stuff, and I am learning something new every day. The photo below shows us removing the nav table top, along with a test frame that was designed to confirm some of the dimensions, angles and curves.
This morning, Bill and I took the boat steps up to the apartment so I could enjoy completing a small project that has been on my to-do list for over a year. Now, when you come to visit, we can properly welcome you aboard!
Cheers!
