Let The Season Begin!

Friday, March 12th, 2010

With brief apologies for our absence (time flies!) we are back again to start the sailing season in San Francisco.

Bill and I got an early start to the weekend and cast off the lines in the early afternoon in 70 degrees of rare sunshine. Unfortunately there was very little wind as we toured our home port and eventually found an anchorage for the night near the beach at China Camp.

Here you will see photos of San Francisco proper, the Corinthian Club (white building and marina) and a few fun shots in between. And proving once again that if it can be boiled, baked, roasted, fried, or micro-waved, it can be done aboard the Bonnie Lass, I enjoyed baking a homemade pizza with spinach, tomatoes, red onion, lots of cheese (4 cheese combo), olive oil, and a sprinkling of red chili pepper flakes. Yummmm!

Also here is a photo of Plastiki, an eco-experiment constructed entirely of recycled material, with plastic bottles serving as hull material. The Plastiki, the pet project of local DeRothchild (our neighbor, and yes, of the DeRothchild’s) was launched on a voyage to Australia, amid much fanfare, as we were returning to our dock. If interested, you can follow their adventures online or on Facebook, although (frankly!) I believe this whole mission is a fairly lightweight pipe dream. Perhaps I will be proven wrong!?
