Motor Out Under the Golden Gate Bridge and Turn Left...

Blogdate: Tuesday, September 2, 2008

At long last! The day has finally arrived when we stop talking about it, stop preparing for it and finally GO FOR IT!!! At approximately 5:30 a.m., with Bill, Eric, Robert McCreary, (and yours truly) aboard, we set off en route to Ensenada Mexico on the first seafaring adventure of the new Bonnie Lass.

A few words about Robert McCreary;
Being the highly evolved (and humble…) people that we are, Bill and I decided that it would be wise to gain assistance from an expert with west coast sailing knowledge and with an excellent recommendation from Modern Sailing Academy in Sausalito, hired Captain Robert McCreary to certify us in two additional ASA courses (Coastal Navigation and Fundamentals of Cruising) while traveling with us from Tiburon to San Diego. Robert literally “wrote the book”, having co-authored many ASA courses and serving as President of the ASA in years past. He is a licensed instructor for captain’s certifications up to 200 tons. Quite a resume, eh?

The photos show our departure at 5:30 a.m. under the Golden Gate Bridge, our actual route for the remainder of this blog and our first dolphin sighting just south of Monterrey. (Oh…did I mention that Eric Bishop is also a professional photographer and that these pictures were taken with his kick-butt Nikon D200 Digital SLR camera? I can only hope that the resolution on this blog does them justice.)
