Ensenada Epilogue

So...
The end of our voyage appears at the begining of this blog segment. If you are interested in reading about the adventures of the Bonnie Lass en route to Mexico, you can scroll down to "blogdate" Tuesday, September 2nd and then scroll up. (I know, it's a blog, blog blog, blog world...)

And so our Epilogue begins;
Our short time in Ensenada was well spent (and we will return soon), exploring the town and making new friends. The resort itself is lovely. Management invests heavily in their employees, selecting very friendly and helpful people and then educating them (particularly in English) at the company's expense. I had travelled to this hotel in years past, as one of my lens suppliers had built a beautiful new manufacturing plant here. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the hotel facilities are now much improved in quality and service. They have a new gourmet chef and I was treated to possibly the best Eggs Benedict I've ever eaten!

The town of Ensenada reminds us of Cancun, perhaps 30 years ago. The large cruise ship lines pull in regularly and the locals have a street they call "gringo gulch", where cruise passengers walk, en masse, up and down the street buying authentic Mexican souvenirs. ;)

We mostly wandered away from the "gulch" searching for dive gear, a BBQ for the Lass, and locating Baja Naval, the premier shipyard in the area. We are contracting for metal railings, a mast rail and ocean rails. The quality of their work is outstanding and the prices are approximately half of what we would have paid in San Francisco.

Our marina revealed some great new friends, many of whom are staying short term on their way further down the coast, or an eventual return north of the border. For our new friends who are reading this, my apologies that my camera flaked out on me (...er, rather, yours truly flaked out with the camera) and I am unable to include those photos. We will be back soon with camera in tow! Here are some photos of the marina, our neighbor boats, the town as seen from our offshore approach, and the resort.

OMG! I am in shock that (first of all) someone listened to my advice. I wonder if you know about the comment feature? Of course I read the entire blog. How smart you were to hire a captain for the first trip...but what about the trip back or did you leave the boat there?
